Bamboo is a bed and breakfast guesthouse on Bolton Street in Hunters Home, a quiet suburb on the eastern side of Knysna. The garden is what sets it apart. Raised wooden walkways lead from the rooms through dense planting, and the breakfast deck faces a patch of Knysna forest. It suits couples and travellers who prefer a smaller, owner-run place to a town-centre hotel, and it puts the Eastern Head and Leisure Isle within easy reach.

What to expect

Rooms are individually decorated, each with its own bathroom, and most have a flat-screen TV. Expect a ceiling fan, a safe, tea and coffee things, and either a wall heater or a fireplace for winter. There are two saltwater swimming pools and a small curio shop selling African crafts. The garden draws a fair amount of birdlife, and the Knysna turaco (still called the Knysna loerie locally) is the one guests come hoping to see.

Good to know

The guesthouse’s own website was not loading securely when this page was checked, so confirm bookings by phone or through a booking platform. You will need a car, as Hunters Home is not a walkable distance from town restaurants. The Eastern Head viewpoint and the Leisure Isle beaches are the closest outings, and the guesthouse is also a workable base for day trips to Plettenberg Bay and The Crags.
