How we check our data

Every fact on this site should tell you where it came from and when it was last looked at.

Places and listings

Towns, parks, places to stay, restaurants, sights and hiking trails come from OpenStreetMap, the open map built by volunteers. Where a venue's own website lists a phone number, we add it. Listings change all the time, so always check with the venue before you travel.

Park fees

Fees are set by the park authorities and usually change once a year. We record the dates each fee applies, and for every figure how many independent published sources agree on it. Anything found in only one source is marked. Where we have not yet seen the authority's own tariff sheet we say so on the page.

Descriptions

Each written description is researched from at least four sources, which are listed at the bottom of the section with the date it was last updated. We leave out anything the sources disagree on.

Photos

Photos come from Wikimedia Commons under open licences. The photographer and licence are shown under every photo.

Spotted a mistake?

Fees and opening times change. If something on a page is wrong or out of date, we want to know.
