Place to stay in Pilanesberg National Park
Ivory Tree Game Lodge
A large private game lodge in the north-east of Pilanesberg National Park, with more than 60 suites, a spa and open-vehicle game drives.
Ivory Tree Game Lodge sits in the north-eastern part of Pilanesberg National Park in North West Province, inside a basin ringed by rocky hills that are part of Pilanesberg’s old volcanic landscape. It is a big lodge by safari standards, with more than 60 suites, and it caters to conference groups as well as leisure guests. Choose it if you want a full-service lodge inside the park rather than an intimate camp.
What to expect
Suites are air-conditioned and en suite, with an outdoor shower and tea and coffee facilities. Most are standard rooms, with a family suite and a handful of larger suites, some of which have a private lounge and plunge pool. The central area has a pool and bar, a dining room, a boma, a curio shop and a conference room for up to 120 delegates. The Amani spa offers body and beauty treatments.
Game drives run daily in open 10-seater vehicles. The park sits in a transition zone between Kalahari and Lowveld habitats, so species such as brown hyena and springbok turn up alongside more familiar game. Hot air balloon flights over the park can also be arranged.
Practical details
- The nearest entrance is Bakgatla Gate.
- Siyabona lists 67 suites and Rhino Africa lists 66, so the exact count depends on the source.
Good to know
With a conference venue on site, it is worth asking whether a large group is booked during your stay if you want a quieter experience. Because the lodge is inside the park, you are already in the reserve when drives set out, which saves time compared with staying outside the gates.
