What to know

The only road crossing between South Africa and Zimbabwe, over the Limpopo on the Alfred Beit Road Bridge.

Busiest land border in southern Africa. Long truck queues are common; in July 2026 the BMA said the delays were on the Zimbabwe side.

One of six ports picked in April 2026 for a public private partnership rebuild aimed at a one-stop border post. Building was due to start late 2026 or 2027.

Bring your passport, the vehicle's registration papers and, for a hired car, the rental company's letter of authority to take it across. Check the rules for Zimbabwe before you go.
