Joubert Tradauw
Small family wine cellar on the R62 in the Tradouw Valley outside Barrydale, with tastings, a booking-only farm deli and its own R62 wine label.

Joubert-Tradauw is a family-run private cellar in the Tradouw Valley, on the R62 just outside Barrydale. The Jouberts have farmed fruit and grapes here for three generations. Winemaker Meyer Joubert studied at Elsenburg and worked two seasons in the Napa Valley before building a stone fermentation cellar on the farm in 1998, and the first vintage was crushed in 1999. Production is small, just under 3,000 cases a year.
What to expect
Inspired by Route 66 in America, Meyer trademarked R62 as a wine brand, so this is the one place on the road where you can taste a wine named after it. The current list includes Chardonnay, Syrah, a Reserwe Cabernet Franc, the R62 red blend and two R62 Alternative reds. Next to the cellar, Beate Joubert runs the R62 Deli in an old tin-roofed farm building, with tables under a vine-covered veranda looking over the valley to the Langeberg. In summer it serves platters, salads, sandwiches and sourdough pizzas. In winter it scales back to tasting platters, with pizzas on Saturdays.
