SANParks Wild Card 2026: Prices and When It Pays

UPDATED 7 OCTOBER 2026 · 4 SOURCES

Short answer: The International Wild Card costs R4,680 for one person, R7,310 for two and R8,745 for a family (prices to 31 October 2026). It only covers daily conservation fees. In Kruger a couple needs about 7 park days to come out ahead, a solo traveller about 8.

Quick answers

How much is the SANParks Wild Card for international visitors?

For cards bought between 1 November 2025 and 31 October 2026 the International All Parks card is R4,680 for an individual, R7,310 for a couple and R8,745 for a family. New prices from 1 November 2026 had not been published when I checked on 7 October 2026.

Is the Wild Card worth it for a week in Kruger?

For a couple, just about. Seven days of Kruger fees for two adults at R602 each comes to R8,428, against R7,310 for the couple card. A solo traveller needs 8 days before the R4,680 card beats paying at the gate.

Does the Wild Card cover accommodation or game drives?

No. It only replaces the daily conservation fee you pay to be inside a park. Camps, chalets, guided drives, walks and the Table Mountain cableway are all paid separately.

Can foreigners buy the cheaper SA resident Wild Card?

No. Overseas visitors can only buy the International All Parks card, unless they hold a valid South African residence or work permit. The local clusters (from R665 to R1,870) are for South African and SADC nationals.

Who counts as a family on the Wild Card?

Up to seven people with no more than two adults, so two adults and five children, or one adult and six children. A child is anyone under 18.

The Wild Card is a year-long pass to South Africa’s national parks and a long list of other reserves. You pay once, and for the next twelve months you walk (or drive) past the daily conservation fee at every park in your cluster. That’s the whole deal. It doesn’t touch your camp bill, your sunset drive or your cableway ticket.

For a short trip it usually loses money. For a long self-drive loop through several parks it can save you a decent amount. The trick is counting your park days honestly before you buy.

What it costs right now

Overseas visitors can only buy one version, the International All Parks card. These are the prices for cards bought from 1 November 2025 to 31 October 2026, taken from the official cluster rate sheet published by CapeNature (one of the Wild Card partners).

Card Who it covers Price (to 31 Oct 2026)
International, individual any 1 person R4,680
International, couple any 2 people R7,310
International, family up to 7, max 2 adults R8,745

The family card takes two adults and five children, or one adult and six children, with “child” meaning under 18.

South African and SADC nationals get far cheaper local clusters. On the same sheet the All Parks cluster is R930, R1,525 and R1,870 (individual, couple, family), the SANParks-only cluster is R895, R1,450 and R1,735, CapeNature is R805, R1,315 and R1,575, and Eswatini’s Big Game Parks is R665, R1,090 and R1,335. A foreigner can only buy these with a valid South African residence or work permit, so don’t try it on.

One timing point. SANParks resets its prices on 1 November each year, and the 2026/27 Wild Card prices hadn’t been published when I checked on 7 October 2026. Kruger’s daily fee for internationals goes up from R602 to R692 on 1 November 2026, and the Wild Card price will very likely rise on the same day. A card bought before then at the current price still runs for a full year, which makes October a good month to buy if your trip falls in the next twelve months.

What it covers and what it doesn’t

It covers the daily conservation fee (some people call it the entry or gate fee) in every member park. The official sheet lists the SANParks, CapeNature, Msinsi and Eswatini Big Game Parks clusters, which together make up the “80+ parks and reserves” you see quoted.

It does not cover accomodation, game drives, guided bush walks, wilderness trails, camping or the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway. It also doesn’t name Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, so I wouldn’t count on it at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi, and Pilanesberg is run by North West Parks rather than SANParks. Budget for gate fees at both.

The card is in your name and isn’t transferable. Expect to show your passport at the gate along with the card.

How many days until it pays for itself

This is where most people get it wrong, because they compare the card against one park and forget that the fee is charged per person, per day. Here’s the break-even for international visitors, using the daily fees in our own fee records for 1 November 2025 to 31 October 2026 (plus Kruger’s new rate from 1 November 2026). The family column assumes two adults and two children.

Park and daily fee (adult/child) Individual Couple Family of 4
Kruger, R602/R300 (to 31 Oct 2026) 8 days 7 days 5 days
Kruger, R692/R345 (from 1 Nov 2026) 7 days 6 days 5 days
Kgalagadi, R576/R288 9 days 7 days 6 days
Addo Elephant, R492/R246 10 days 8 days 6 days
Cape Point section of Table Mountain NP, R515/R250 10 days 8 days 6 days
Golden Gate, Mapungubwe, Marakele or Mountain Zebra, R325/R163 15 days 12 days 9 days

Days in different parks add up, so you don’t need a week in one place. Take a couple doing four days in Kruger, two in Addo and a day at Cape Point. At the gate that’s R3,907 each, so R7,814 for two. The couple card is R7,310, which saves them about R500. The same trip done solo costs R3,907 in fees, well under the R4,680 card, so a solo traveller should just pay as they go.

A family of four is the easy win. Five days in Kruger already costs them R9,020 in fees at the current rate, more than the R8,745 family card.

My rough rule: if you’re a couple with seven or more days inside the big-ticket parks (Kruger, Kgalagadi, Addo, Cape Point), buy it. If you’re travelling alone, you need eight or more days in Kruger, or nine to ten in the others. Under that, keep your money.

If you’d rather not do the sums by hand, put your own days into the Wild Card calculator, or check single-park costs with the park fee calculator. All the daily fees, with the date each one was last checked, are on the fees page. For Kruger specifically, the Kruger National Park page has the gate fees and when they change.

Buying one

You can buy the card online from SANParks before you travel or at a park reception when you arrive. I’d buy it at the first gate if your plans might change, since there’s no point locking in R7,310 for a trip that shrinks to four park days. Before paying, confirm the current price on the official SANParks Wild Card page at sanparks.org, especially if you’re buying on or after 1 November 2026.
