Annie´s Cottage
An 11-room bed and breakfast in a restored manor house in Springbok, a walkable base for Namaqualand's spring wildflower season.
Annie’s Cottage is a bed and breakfast in a restored old manor house in Springbok, in the Namaqualand region of the Northern Cape. It stands at the foot of the koppie where South Africa’s first commercial copper mine opened in 1852. Most guests use it as a base for the spring wildflowers in Namaqua National Park, or as a comfortable overnight stop on a longer Northern Cape road trip.
What to expect
There are 11 en-suite rooms, each decorated differently, from twins and doubles to family rooms and a honeymoon suite. All have a bath, a shower or both, and come with air-conditioning, satellite TV and a minibar. Some rooms have patios looking over the town.
The house has a lounge, a formal dining room and a veranda over a garden of jacaranda trees, with a shaded swimming pool. A full breakfast is included. For lunch and dinner you walk into town, which has several restaurants.
Practical details
- Phone: 027 712 1451.
- Town centre and tourist office about 500 m away on foot.
- Meals: breakfast only.
- Pets accepted, and German is spoken.
Good to know
The flowers are usually at their best from late August to mid-September, and the town fills up then, so book well ahead for those weeks. Plan two or three nights if you want time for the flower routes rather than a single overnight stop.
