De Bos is a pecan nut farm in Montagu that doubles as a campsite, backpackers and set of self-catering cottages. It is about 190 km from Cape Town and close enough to the centre to walk to shops and restaurants. It suits rock climbers, hikers and anyone travelling on a budget who wants room to spread out.
What to expect
You can choose between a shady campsite with braai spots and picnic tables, dormitory rooms with bunks and shared bathrooms, private rooms with en-suite bathrooms, and self-catering cottages with mountain views. Backpackers share a large communal kitchen with a seating area, and there is a swimming pool and a big braai area.
Peacocks, guinea fowl, horses, ponies and donkeys wander the farm, and there is a children’s play area.
